Begin by sketching the features on drawing paper using the step-by-step progressions shown below. Then prepare your watercolor paper as shown in the video, and create your face template.

Follow these easy step-by-step progressions to draw the features of the face. If you can do at least 3 sketches of each one, you’ll be amazed how quickly you improve! Use any kind of paper and drawing utensil. At the bottom of this page you’ll find PDF downloads for all the Templates shown here.

Create A Face Shading Template using three Colored Pencils
This is a great practice step for beginners to learn where the dark, medium & light tones fall on the face. In the next lesson, we’ll be using paint to create dimension.
