Filming Sequence: Creation to Delivery

STAGING

·        If your studio is dark, consider investing in a set of professional studio lights if you don’t have adequate lighting in your studio space.  If possible, face a window with natural light, and turn on all overhead lighting. You want good light on your face, and no glare on your canvas.

·        Place your phone in a horizontal position with the control button on the right hand side. Use a tripod for stability.

·        Eliminate all excess noise that may distract from your video.

·        Create a staging backdrop that feels good, and represents your personal style. Lean toward a clean, uncluttered environment that exudes beauty.

·        Dress in a way that feels authentic.

·        Create notes for yourself and practice what you’ll say.

DO A PRE-FILM TEST EVERY.SINGLE.TIME

·        BRIGHTNESS: On your smart phone in video mode, tap your screen and you’ll see a ‘square’ appear with a small sun icon. This is your LIGHT LOCK, and you can adjust it to increase the brightness. Then LOCK IT so the light doesn’t fluctuate up and down while you’re teaching. Every time you film a segment you need to do this test to check EXPOSURE. Here’s a little video about it I found on youtube: https://youtu.be/g-y9m_DsB2Q

·        VOLUME: Set this mid range, not too high and not too low

·        SCREEN VIEW: Check what’s showing up on your camera screen

FILMING

Create a sacred space to set the energy and tone. Consider a candle, incense, music or fresh flowers to stay grounded in the Awareness that this is a sacred service that you are co- creating with Spirit.

·        Follow your notes as a reference, and film the segments for each of your modules.

·        KEEP RAW FOOTAGE to 30 -40 minutes for easier editing. Remember that ‘finished’ segments for students should be no more than 20 minutes for easy streaming.

·        BE AUTHENTIC. Speak in your natural voice, with your natural tone. Allow passion and vulnerability to come through when it’s authentic. People want to FEEL you and know they can relate.

·        Remember, YOU CAN EDIT OUT ANYTHING. Film as many ‘takes’ as is needed to create the footage you feel good about, without getting obsessive and perfectionistic. If this is your first time, give yourself a break. Everyone starts somewhere and the more you do this, the easier it gets!

EDITING SEQUENCE:

TRANSFER FILM CLIPS TO YOUR COMPUTER FOR EDITING

From my phone, I open the Vimeo app and upload each of the raw film segments. Then I download each segment, one at a time, to my computer for editing.

(I have also done this step by transferring raw segments to my gmail account, then downloading onto my desktop)

OPEN THE EDITING SOFTWARE on your computer

If using Wondershare, choose the Widescreen format (16:9) format. Upload each raw film segment and edit. Remember to keep the final length no more than 20 minutes long so it’s easy for your students to stream. You may need 3-4, 20 minute segments per Module.

·        Begin by deleting any parts you don’t like

·        Add text if desired

·        Voice over if desired

·        Consider a cover slide with title

·        If you use music, include a slide at the end for credits

·        Keep finished segments within 20 minutes for easy streaming

·        Export as an MP4 file into Vimeo
