Design Online – Module 2 – Structure – OPEN

STRUCTURE

Reference Workbook Pages 3 – 4

After you have a good sense of your Vision, the next step is creating a fluid structure, or container.

We must design our offering in a way that is ‘teachable’, and easily communicates a way for others to move through the material. In a sense, we are “deconstructing” our Vision into teachable ‘chunks’, which will become the individual lessons, or modules of our course.

Within our Structure, there is both WRITTEN CONTENT and ART/CREATIVE CONTENT. Depending on what kind of course we are creating, either one may be more loaded than the other.

This stage is where most of our work, research and downloads from Spirit take place. We open ourselves as a ‘living container’ and ask Spirit to co-create with us in the development of what we present.

·        This step is often integral with Lesson 3 (creating the art process), and you’ll work back and forth between the two.

·        If your offering is heavily focused on art technique, this section may be less relevant.

·        If you are creating an offering that is more ‘Journey’ oriented, taking students on a path of discovery, awareness or personal experience, you’ll spend a good deal of time creating your written content.

There are any number of approaches to how we can design modules. Consider some of these options:

·        A progression of technical content that leads from easiest to more complex

·        Various themes that relate to the overall Vision

·        A personal journey of discovery that deepens with each successive lesson

What best supports your Offering?

Although we’re creating our Structure, as we gather our material, we remain Fluid. Allow permeability, change and movement. This is a free-floating creative process…

Consider keeping a notebook and write longhand. Ask Spirit the questions below and simply ‘take notes’ using ‘automatic writing’. Sometimes you’ll receive ‘downloads’ and other times, it’s a long process of Listening and contemplation over many weeks and months.

Once you start having enough clarity, create a word doc and begin organizing the material:

·        Give each module a title

·        Continue expanding on ideas, information, quotes, etc. to create some written content

·        Toward the end of the writing and gathering process,  keep in mind what the purpose for each specific module is, and edit out anything that doesn’t feel potent or relevant

·        If you feel that some segments of information belong in another module, move them

·        Continue this process until the work feels ‘settled’/

WRITING PROMPTS

·        How many lessons/modules are needed for this Course?

·        Why is this lesson important? How does it tie into and support the Big Idea?

·        What is the primary teaching of each particular lesson?

·        Are your lessons progressive, with each one building upon the last?

·        Who is your course likely to attract? Who are you speaking to?

·        What do you want your students to discover?

·        What do you want your students to feel?

·        Is there any research you need to conduct to support your teaching?
